The author is a devoted urban educator of twenty-nine years, choosing to teach and lead across/within a variety of secondary schools: public (charter, magnet, and test-based selective enrollment), Catholic, and Yeshiva. Additionally, the author has taught university courses for future educators and community-based writing workshops for adolescents. The author has been awarded masters degrees in English (Northwestern University) and Educational Leadership in Curriculum, Instruction, and Evaluation (University of Illinois – Chicago).
Honored to receive teaching awards and recognitions throughout his career, his greatest honor is the quiet, knowing smile of the student who, when challenging himself/herself beyond that which was imagined, accomplishes. For the author, the transcendent power of learning originates in those moments.
Presently, the author is designing and building a unique and powerful educational technology, The Purple Pen™. The Purple Pen’s mission is (1) to empower local educators (2) to design and provide virtual, authentic learning for their students. The author, now designer and builder, is grateful to be assisted by the exceptional skills and abundant generosity of many. Stay tuned . . .
He and his family live in Chicago.
